TRANSMORPHERS - MORE THAN MEETS THE ASYLUM'S EYE [Mar. 20th, 2007|07:30 pm]
Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry

According to Asylum writer/director Leigh Scott, his upcoming sci-fi thriller about a race of alien robots conquering the Earth and forcing the surviving members of the human race underground until a small group of human rebels decides to fight back some 300 years later is not intended to be a knock-off of Michael Bay's upcoming mega-budget TRANSFORMERS movies. That seems fairly obvious just from reading the plot synopsis that clearly makes this film sound like it has more in common with movies like BATTLEFIELD EARTH and even THE TERMINATOR than the forthcoming live action "robots in disguise" flick. Nothing I've read or heard about Scott's film indicates that the giant robots will transform. Or should I now say, "transmorph"?

But don't tell that to the Asylum's marketing department!

When I first heard the film's original title ROBOT WARS, all I could think was what a bland, generic, boring title it was. I was hoping The Asylum would change it to something, anything with a little more zip to it. Little did I suspect that I'd surf over to The Asylum's website and suddenly see TRANSMORPHERS staring me in the face. GENIUS~!

In keeping with the new title change and the movie that the title is trying to mimic, I urge The Asylum to change the tagline for their film to "MORE THAN THE EYE CAN SEE." Not quite the same as TRANSFORMERS "MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE", but close enough for potential viewers to get the idea.

But in all seriousness, though the title may make eyes roll, that artwork will move DVDs. Hat's off to whoever at The Asylum came up with that cover art. That's money! That's the sort of cover art sells DVDs. The's the sort of cover art more DVD companies should be putting out there on their genre products, not the usual assortment of photoshopped images, floating heads, giant eyeballs, etc. It looks a comic book cover with a giant robot battling human forces - I'm sold.

TRANSMORPHERS will begin laying waste to DVD shelves on June 26th; two days after my birthday and eight days before TRANSFORMERS is released to theaters. Coincidence? I meant coinciding with the release of the TRANSFORMERS movie, not my birthday. Hopefully, this the biggest budgeted movie in Asylum will turn out to be a nice belated birthday present and not another PIRATES OF TREASURE ISLAND. Fingers crossed...

Funny, of course, given Bay's habitual plaigarism. At least this is, more or less, an original plot with original characters, as opposed to Bay's RazorBladeBots with Transformers names tacked on(which don't so much "transform" as "morph by movie magic"). Plus these robots don't look like they'd fall apart if they walked. And go figure the deathbot ont he cover is somehow more kid-friendly in appearance than the supposedly "cute" ugly mass that is "Bumblebee"(aka "Glitch" from the game Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. Just another thing Bay has ripped off).

PS: Bay suck-off-fest forum the Allspark is watching this, lord knows they'll circle-jerk to the thought of Bay's film being better. As if Bay has ever made a good film.

Re: ENOUGH!

Amen to that!

Aside from the flame war....Robot Jox 2 used the title Robot Wars back in the early 90's...now there was a waste of celluloid. This one, although the move to use a similar name to the Transformers movie was brilliant, combines elements from at least 3 or 4 good big budget movies. (Matrix, Transformers, Terminator having never seen Battlefield Earth I couldnt say how much appears to be taken from it) I will at the very least rent it to watch and chorttle and good campy B movie fun.

Well that looks interesting...

In response to deadside_legion's claims about Bumblebee and Glitch, I'd say Glitch looks a lot more like Hot-Shot than Bay's Bumblebee.

And I'd say he looks like a rip-off of a Brutishdog from VOTOMS more than any Transformer looks like a rip-off of him.

hello

(Link)

National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged they had funded a project with the US auto makers for the past five years. The NTSB covertly funded a project whereby the auto makers were installing black boxes in four wheel drive pickup trucks in an effort to determine, in fatal accidents, the circumstances in the last 15 seconds before the crash. They were surprised to find in 49 of the 50 states the last words of drivers in 61.2% of fatal crashes were, "Oh, Shit!" Only the state of Texas was different, where 89.3% of the final words were, "Hey Y'all, hold my beer and watch this!"
