Reports of The Asylum's demise are most definitely premature. It seems nothing came of Fox's potential lawsuit against The Asylum. THE DAY THE EARTH STOPPED will be released this Tuesday. A new trailer for it is up on the front page of The Asylum's website and I cannot help but find myself very cautiously optimistic about what I see. Could be they put all the best shots in the trailer and the film will end up being another dull talkfest. Guess I'll find out this Tuesday.
They've also posted the trailer for their January teen sex comedy THE 18 YEAR OLD VIRGIN. That one doesn't interest me so I haven't bothered. You can view the R-rated trailer for yourself by CLICKING HERE and tell me if it looks at all funny.
The movie formerly known as COUNTDOWN: ARMAGEDDON is now titled COUNTDOWN: JERUSALEM. I suspect they'd be going the Faith Films route with this one since it sounded a bit in tune with last year's 2012 DOOMSDAY. Is it just my imagination or does the city being depicted getting nuked on the box art look more like Los Angeles than Jerusalem? Look for it on February 17th.
Continuing their recent fondness for dragon movies, DRAGONQUEST stars BEASTMASTER Marc Singer in this fantasy flick about a young hero questing to awaken a dragon so that it will defeat another mythological monster summoned by an ancient warlord. I'm under the impression Marc Singer will not be playing the "young" hero for obvious reasons. More likely a mentor to the character, I'd speculate. Look for it on March 17th.
Nothing coming of the Fox lawsuit must have emboldened them for their April 28th release: THE TERMINATORS. Yeah, they actually went there. Now tell me if this plot sounds familiar. "A small band of resistance fights battle the cyborgs that have taken control of the planet." A big brass set of balls if what these people have. But didn't they pretty much already make their TERMINATOR knock-off with that UNIVERSAL SOLDIERS movie they made a year or two ago?
May 19th brings the one I am most looking forward to despite knowing deep down in my heart it'll probably end up being another SUPERCROC. I, of course, speak of MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS. When last I wrote of this offering it was MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT SQUID. They must have done some market research that said octopus are more popular than squids or maybe they couldn't come to financial terms with the giant squid so they replaced him with a giant octopus willing to work for scale. Who can say? The plot - the title is the plot. The title is the plot and the tag line too. A mega shark fights a giant octopus, duh.
Last, certainly not least, will TRANSMORPHERS 2 on June 23rd. It'll be a modern day prequel to the futuristic robot flick as a small band of resistance seeking refuge beneath the surface of the earth following an invasion by giant robots. Sounds a bit like THE TERMINATORS actually. Ah, but there's a twist. TRANSMORPHERS 2 has a new title. That new title being TRANSMORPHERS 2 in 3-D. My heart be still. The Asylum are actually looking to cash-in on the blooming 3-D movie craze with their stab at three-dimensional mockbustering. I cannot help but think back to the audio sync fiasco of the initial run of TRANSMORPHERS DVDs they put out and ponder the prospects of these same people attempting a 3-D movie on an Asylum budget.

If Fox can't take them down, who can?

You mean the movie directed the the woman who played "Pepsi Girl" on Parker Lewis Can't Lose?! Does it look funny? Think "Screwballs" with less T&A and Canadian accents. This seems destined for the MVP free movie pass at Video King.
Oddly enough, the trailer to The 18 Year Old Virgin did make me laugh once or twice. It looks oddly promising, but still incompetent.
Although, how sad is it that the Asylum can find actresses that are willing to take their clothes off and don't have obviously fake boobs, yet the average Hollywood film these days can't? | |
