UPDATED! MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D POSTER APPEARS TO INDICATE IT WILL BE IN 3-D [Oct. 23rd, 2008|05:40 am]

This January at a theater near you we're going to be graced by a remake of the early 80's slasher flick MY BLOODY VALENTINE. What's that? You scoff at the notion of yet another horror movie remake? But... But... But this one is going to be in 3-D.

The poster for MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D has been revealed and I kind of dig it. You have to at least admire the honesty in that they're not promoting the movie so much as they are promoting it being in 3-D right down to the use of amusement park thrill ride font. With this poster they're basically saying, "Yeah, we know this movie is going to utter crap, but, come on, it's going to be utter crap in 3-D. Who cares if it's no damn good? Hacking, slashing, entrails and mutilation, even boobies... All of it will be popping right out of the big screen in glorious 3-D!"

I'd say this is smart marketing. Nobody in their right mind is actually longing for a MY BLOODY VALENTINE remake. But at least this uncalled for horror remake will be in 3-D and be so at the beginning of the looming 3-D movie boom when the concept is still rather novel to a new generation of moviegoers. Surely even the movie studio knows this movie will have one strong opening weekend based solely on the 3-D gimmick and then drop off into the bowels of forgotten horror filmdom as opposed to having a modest opening weekend without the 3-D gimmick and then drop off into the bowels of forgotten horror filmdom.

MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D opens on January 16. Why January 16th instead of the more obvious choice of Valentine's Day? Because the remake of FRIDAY THE 13TH was already slotted to open on Friday, February 15th. That remake will not be in 3-D. Besides, it's already been done.

UPDATED!!! The trailer for MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D has just gone online and it too also puts heavy emphasis on the 3-D aspect. Smart move because watching this trailer I can't imagine many people having any interest in seeing this lame looking slasher movie if it weren't in 3-D. Link below.

The poster is God-awful, it looks like Ed Wood rose from the dead and was given cheesy themepark pictures and access to photoshop. They shoulda taken the original poster and just had the killer swinging the pickaxe outward. It looks like a ride for one of Universal Theme Park's Haunted Tours.

This movie is going to kick some serious butt at the BO. Love the idea. Love the poster. Awesome marketing aimed straight at their target audience.
