DINNER FOR FIENDS? NO! DINNER FOR FOY! THE FIRST EVER FOYCAST! [Dec. 27th, 2007|06:18 am]
Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry

You know the old saying, "Careful what you wish for?" Some of the readers of Dread Central (and some of you as well) apparently wished for a special edition of Dinner For Fiends consisting entirely of me rambling about movies good and bad - mostly bad. Well, you got it: the first ever Foycast! God help us all.

A few days before Christmas, myself and special Dread Central guest co-host "Uncle Creepy" recorded the very first ever "FoyCast". When you're suffering from a cold, have had very little sleep for the past two days, and are hopped up on an energy drink - what better time to record a podcast? That can certainly make things all the more interesting. For example, like when you have an entire introduction planned out in your head and then the moment you begin recording you forget everything you'd plan to say and just start raving like a lunatic instead. Thankfully, the soothing melodies of the greatest movie theme song of all time helped calm me down enough to bring you this very special podcast.

I spent just over an hour talking about how I got into the whole Internet movie reviewing thing, why I subject myself to bad movies, clearing up a few misconceptions some people seem to have about my viewing habits, running down my annual top 10 list of the worst direct-to-DVD horror movies of 2007, and whatever else was going through my mind at the time (much of which I've already forgotten), before wrapping it all up by telling everyone about one of the greatest "so bad it's good" movies you'll probably never see but you should.

All the while, for added comic effect, poor Uncle Creepy is forbidden from being his usual foul-mouthed self under penalty of severe cinematic punishment. Unfortunately, there's still a little salty language - just nowhere near as much as is usually the case when he's around.

Also on the unfortunate side, there's about a five-minute stretch where there's some minor audio problems due to my phone - unbeknownst to me as we were recording - starting to die out. You'll notice an annoying crackle in my voice for a couple minutes. It doesn't last long though and it's more a minor nuisance than a series detriment to your listening pleasure.

Hope you all enjoy this first ever edition of The Foycast!

I look forward to more of these episodes. I'm a fan. I'll admit, though I love JB, UC and the others, I was never THAT big a fan of Dinner for Fiends mainly because if not organized well round tables are pretty chaotic. Though I loved the Rob Zombie's Halloween episode, it was still pretty chaotic. You have a good thing in this show. I hope you keep going with it. I'm still reeling from the mention and slight meandering over to me. It was a hilarious jab, that's for sure. If you ever need another McMahon, I'm your man. The offer's on the table. Either way, I can't wait for another episode.

Foy, I can't wait to download this. I really enjoy DWF and makes a great companion to when I'm working out.

Great work on the Podcast

I'm going to join in with the tidal wave of internet appreciation for the first FoyCast, and I'm looking forward to it becoming a regular feature. And, like most things, the more regular it is, the better.

Oh, and if I had to hazard a guess why Christopher Lambert wasn't in "Dungeons and Dragons: The Movie!" is because maybe he and Bruce Payne (famous professor eyeshadow) didn't get along while making Highlander: Endgame.

Listened to the Foycast on my way to and fro work today and yesterday. Great stuff, and I probably scared a few people on the bus by laughing out loud at random intervals.

We want more Foy!

If you liked Berzerker...

BTW Foy. Since you seem to like direct-to-DVD never released in the US schlocky movies, you should consider watching THE CURSE OF KING TUT'S TOMB. I caught this inexplicably playing on Portuguese (I live in Portugal) TV on a Saturday afternoon. It's basically a theatrical quality Mummy ripoff. The movie has it's flaws: even though they do a good job of making it look like Egypt in places, it's obvious the movie was filmed in India, the final act, supposedly taking place in the Underworld was obviously filmed in a marble quarry, and it has some pretty abysmal CGI, especially in the final act, but that is inconsequential compared to the so cheesy it's good performance by the villain played by Jonathan Hyde.

Yes, Cadbury from Richie Rich, Van Pelt from Jumanji. THAT Jonathan Hyde. This movie is a clear example of why he's not usually seen on screen for long. He basically plays this manic British version of Rene Belloq working for a sinister group called the Hellfire Council (*snicker*) led by... Malcom McDowell (whose performance in this film boils down to sitting in a chair and entering a pyramid). Later on, Hyde actually gains Evil Egyptian demon powers and starts acting like a British Imhotep with weird Morpheus-esque 1930s sunglasses. His antics are well worth watching.

So, if you haven't seen it already, check it out!

Oops. It seems to have been released in the US after all. Oh well. I still recommend it
